Sam Worthington and Gugu Mbatha-Rav on ‘Fuze’ at TIFF

Mbatha-raw praises Mackenzie’s style: “His long search and constant camera feels so authentic and exciting. I was first, I was on the edge of my seat – even though I knew what would happen.”

Worthington, reunited with Maccenzy after several collaborations, said his character X did not exist in the early draft.

“I just called David and said,” What can I do in this one? “He told me that all roles were missing,” Worthington remembers. “But when I read it, I thought I could do something with this argung. I asked him to create something, and David gave me that to help me serve the story and to be a foil for theo.”

While Mackenzie called “Fuze” his “pure kinematic party”, teased the passion project for a long time: adaptation of the generated space travel novel that extends 100 years.

“Currently, it is incredibly complex, a 190-page script,” he admits he admitted. “If it is properly realized, it could be a hell of travel. It’s something I would still like to find a home.”

For Mbatha-Rav, the role marked another opportunity to explore the range. “I would love to make two-way on the film – something really intimately and mental. I always look for characters with depth,” she shares.

And for Worthington, excluded “Avatar: fire and ash” on the horizon, “Fuze” proved another opportunity to cooperate with a reliable director. “It’s all about whether the film connects to the audience,” he said. “If that happens, you hope you get the opportunity to continue talking these stories.”
