The Braraison Cirus is given time for his moment.
The 31-year-old singer-songwriter works hard to clearly define sound and genre who would like to share with the world. Although he was proud of music he had previously created – his album 2021, Javelina, was the culmination of all the things he loved – Cyrus was needed to focus on one element who he was.
“What I did in the past was all I liked,” Cyrus says because of his home in Nashville, Tennessee. “I love everything I did, but one thing I’ve learned is that it’s before you are doing (all sounds and styles) I love, I want to do one thing and I really do it.
His new single, “Know it”, which contains his sister, Grammy-Winning Singer Miley CirusIt is now outside, marking a new era of music for Braraison Cyrus. He also signifies the first time that the Cyrus will cooperate with his great sister.
Below, the Cyrus talks about how the single came, what the song means for him, working with Miley, what music he wants to create and his future plans.
Laura Sirikul: Tell me about singla, “Know this.” How did this song come?
Braraison Cyrus: Once I decided that this collection of songs would become an album, I had a lot of people to tell me that I needed something with more energy. So I gathered with my friend songs named Jordan Lindley, and we were like, “Let’s do it like over top and entertainment.” I usually focus on texts first and most importantly. But for this song, it was more, “Let’s make it accelerating and entertaining.” We did it in about an hour, which is my preferred time to write a song because it means I’m not thinking about texts so much. I wasn’t trying to focus on that. I was just trying to focus on making something that had a lot of energy.
I mean, the texts are quite meaningful, “I’m inventing new reasons in my head, but I’ve already left.” What does you mean the meaning behind the song?
I returned and changed (text), because we only sang the same line over and over again in chorus. Then we returned later, when we had the right kind of energy, and adjusted the texts to fit in. We had energy first, and then we returned and said, “OK, now let’s try to capture and make something.”
My family grew up in the area south of Nashville, known as Franklin. During the years, it became much higher, but that was relatively small and south of Nashville. We moved to Los Angeles when I was ready to start high school. I would say, especially with the choir, it was kind of around LA. The verses are, weird enough, about Franklin. It was a mixture of leaving Franklin to move to LA, and then leaving La to return to Nashville. The verses were more about my hometown, while chorov felt more like that was about LA.
You worked with many artists on music, “here in the middle” from Sierra Lundi, Fleet fleetOld Sea Brigades, Steve Earle, Orville Peck(your sister) Noah Cyrusand (your father) Billy Rai Cyrus. What made this song sing with Miley Cyrus and why now?
Honestly, we recorded the entire song – full production and everything – and then I just said, “There’s this power missing from her.” I (thought), “Who could I request to deliver (this) the power behind him?” I was sitting there to abolish my brain, and then he jumped out in my head. Even my engineer, who worked on the minutes, said (the same thing). We both said “Miley” in exactly the same time, because it is one of those things where it kind of, even though it is your closest thing, it’s not the first thing you would think for some reason. But once I said that, there is no one who could probably deliver such authority to have voice. So I sent her the next day and said, “Yes, send me stems.” I was expecting to send me one file, but it sent me 15 files to put onto each other. This is awesome. I remember what I was listening to it without a path behind her, and (hearing) her harmony, her bundle and all those things, (thinking) this is perfect. I put it right away. I’m a reverse addict and I left her things that are dry because I just want to hear the rawness of it. There are very few people I would describe well about it as if it had such a power it works.
Will music video go for this single? Or an acoustic video to see or live performance with Miley?
We’ll find something really cool to work. That’s all I’ll say about it.
It was 2021 because you published the album, Javelina, who was a blend of psychedelic, folk and American Alt-state. What can we expect from you in terms of new music and which sounds / mixtures of the genre you want to have for this new album?
For this album I focused on texts, acoustic guitar, melodies and things like that. Then I built it all like a foundation. I feel like earlier, it was a consequence that they did not produce any of their own things in the past, (I did not have that foundation that I was built). But, producing this record for the first three or four months, I was completely, it was a chance to build a basis to construct a brick brick and that it was done intentionally. Then I would like, “You know what, this is cool, but this doesn’t belong here. This should go. It’s authorized from something else.”
I want to clearly define what I am good and what people do that people are happy to listen and do it more than that. From 2021. My main goal was to make people happy and has a song that they can listen to the car, on the bike path, on the mountaineers, or anything else. (Only songs that) make them happy and time passes. That’s my goal.
When you say clearly defined, what would you say that your sound is now, at this time?
For this record, I would say – folk pop music, we hope. I am thinking about the influences I have and all people singing on them. Maybe it’s just as simple as that, like pop music, but on the acoustic guitar. I think it’s full pop music where my head is now right now.
You mentioned other people singing on it. Who can we expect? Or who can you hint to us?
Maybe another family member down the road. Tyler Ramsey from a band band. My co-writer Jordan Lindley. Old Sea Brigade. I’m trying to think. I think it’s pretty, but yes, other family members can come up.
Are there any additional cooperation you want to continue, especially with the family? Maybe future family albums?
That’s hard. Two my favorite favorite artists are Regina Spektor and Imogen Heap. I think my dream cooperation was with Halom Imogen.
What plans can we expect? Do you have any plans for a tour of small places or cafes? Where can we see how you do these songs?
Now we start to reach that phase. We look at it. If we go on tour or play at festivals, we would like to provide the best and most popular possible show possible. We understand that. I know that we will pop on festivals and go on the way.
