New Chromeos Sweet Spot

In the last few years, I felt like Chromebook hit the plateau. Chromeos is a wonderful but mature platform at this point, and Google continued to add smart and useful functions regularly. But the hardware felt quite stagnated, with a few exceptions. Most chrome books at this time are utilitarian devices that perform a job, but they inspire a little excitement, and I found most of the In Intel Chromebook, I don’t get me through the day of work before the battery doesn’t die before the battery doesn’t die.

Hardware design

ChromeBook Spin 514 feels like many Acer Laptopps I tried over the years (CP514-5HN is an identifier for this particular model, but we will only call it spin 514 from here). It is firm and well built while still feeling quite utilitarian. It does not guess “Premium” standards of the laptop, but it is on the nicer end of the Spectrum Chromebook. I’m a fan of color schemes, unlike a fairly boring gray they enter Chromebook, and the laptop cover has a nicely covered and polished and polished ill, giving it a visual wrist.

It is also a relatively slender (0.61 inch) and a laptop laptop (3 kilograms). It does not push the envelope, but it is also more conscious and portable from a much cheaper chrome book. “Almost premium” is not a bad place. The same goes for keyboard and trackpad – and they are spacious and spacious and comfortable, and the keys have a lot of clicks to travel. I wish there was one of each on each side so that you could plug the charger from the left or right, but pale. My only real quune is that if you use a monitor with a laptop connected to power, downloads and USB-C cranes. The HDMI connection would be useful for that common scenario.

Since the name includes, spin 514 has a 360-degree hinges that allows you to use it in tablet mode, with touch screen as the main input. I have long believed that these convertible laptops really do not offer any useful solution for a huge majority of people, and I still feel the same way. But the hinge feels great; Acer has a ton of experience in this department. The ears 2.0 stylus I had on my hand did without any need for pairing or adjusting, which was convenient. All in all, spin 514 lands only about where I would expect for a laptop of $ 700 in terms of hardware quality. It is utilitarian in a good way – in my testing there was no major rates of speakers, which have very little bass and sounded pretty sharp when you listen to music.

Configurations and performance

Before diving in how Spin 514 worked for me, quickly about configurations. The version I tested for holding $ 700 and will be sold through the best purchase. Music or video playback never skipped no matter what I still worked, and Android applications like Lightroom was also working quickly and smoothly.

My daily tons of ton of chrome cards, various chat apps, youtube music, todoist and handful android applications have definitely used more resources, but I can still go through a full work day with a battery. It’s not something I recently told about many chromeboy books. The only warning is that the battery life will almost safely guess if you decide to model with multiple resolution.

Chromeos and twins

There are also plenty of web applications that are well optimized for Chromeos, and Google documents currently has a comprehensive offline mode. Chromeos also fits nice with Android phones and adds functions like common notifications and streaming some applications directly to your laptop.

Of course, twins are also a large part of the equation – but if you are not a big fan and tools, it is also easy to ignore. There are few inquiries around the OS, but nothing that really does not pull your attention to what you do. My only real quune with spin 514 is its price. At $ 700, we push the top of what anyone should spend on the chrome. While the more powerful life and long battery life will be worth some people, Acer itself is at the very strong competition with its standard ChromeBook Plus 514 who came out this summer. It has an Intel Chip, so the battery life and performance are not at the same level such as spin 514, but literally half of the price to $ 350.
