The most important part of any thermometer test is accuracy. We strive for these criteria the hardest when compiling entries to the best list, and that is most prominent than tests. We use a thermometer of medical grade as our basic line for accuracy and test the variance of the meat probe at that temperature.
The test of the thermometer accuracy usually includes a cup, some ice and water cubes. Due to the nature of water, liquid and solid of 32F (0C), so we can reliably be that temperature. Charging the high glass with ice cubes and adding water – cooled water so that Ice does not melt – you can lead that water to 32F.
Then we also insert the medical class and the meat probe we test and mix it until the medical grade thermometer reads 32f. When this happens, let’s shoot the temperature reading the meat probe we test to see what, if any, the variance exists.
You would think that use of heat would have more sense. After all, these are barbecue probes, so high heat is more important, isn’t it? Unfortunately, heat depends on many factors, such as altitude and pressure, that we cannot always control. The freezing point of water is always the same, wherever you are, so we can ensure accuracy regardless of the location.
