Tokyo – One shot down, and maybe another one to go for Sydney McLaughlin-Levone.
McLaughlin-Levone finished half-finals of 400 meters at the World Championships on Tuesday 48.29 seconds, breaking the 19th American Mark that Sania Richards-Ross held for .41 seconds.
It was the fastest time of 2025. Year, the seventh soonest of time ever, and makes the thought of breaking a 40-year-old record of 47.60 makes it completely possible in the last on Thursday.
“Treated, for sure,” said Mclaughlin-Levrone about the misdemeanor of the American records they target because she fell out of the obstacles. “I definitely didn’t expect that time. It just shows it’s fitness there. I’m excited for the finals and grateful she recorded a record of amazing women.”
Richards-Ross, the best American 400 racer of her generation, set a record of 48.70 in 2006. and won 400 to London Olympic Games six years later.

Now all eyes are on the brand set by East German, Maria Koch, 1985. years. It is one of the few remaining records from the Eastern Block era. No woman broke 48 seconds from Koh’s records, and even McLaughlin-Levrone said it should be the first goal before thinking about brands.
But McLaughlin-Levone has a sense of breaking records. She did that six times in her “main” event, 400 obstacles, which she took away from this year to see what she could do in an apartment of 400. Her shooting in obstacles stands at 50.37.
McLaughlin said that it was surprised that 48:29 appeared at the sunlight at the same stadium where she won the obstacles four years ago in Tokyo Olympics, “the last 30 meters were a little reserved.”
“But it wasn’t surprising because I know the job that was put. It’s just about execution and I’m grateful to show me it’s there.”
She said she focused on training more than a race as she happened their technique under the awake’s eyes of Coach Bobby Kersee.
