Denver Broncos lost a weekly competition by Indianapolis Colts after the punishment gave Colts a second chance in the goal in the field.
The Sean Payton’s chief coach took the blame for the sentence that set the winner of the game.
“We had a certain block target in the area (in the game plan) in case of a goal at the end of the game,” Payton said Monday, ESPNs Jeff Legwold. “… but it’s in me in that situation. Not at the (special team coach), the claims of 60 yards are different, it was the wrong and (officials), it was my great regret of the flying home, you know … that it is (flight flight.”
Indianapolis tried to be three goals of 60 yards with three seconds left when Broncos Linebacker Dondrea Tillman was marked for levers. Kick was short, but the sentence gave Colts another try and made him win the game.
Going to the block on the clip would create a lot of sense, but given how far the COLTS attempt was, support would be a safer move. Payton seems to have learned from his mistake and will take a less aggressive approach if it is found in that situation again.
