Reddit users can no longer see how many people are subscribed to their favorite community submeddit. The platform has announced that the metrics of members appearing on the subheaddit pages – located below the right side for desktop users, or at the top called called on Mobile – to better focus on real-time engagement.
The number of members is replaced by two metrics. One shows how much the user has visited SUBREDDIT in the last seven days “, based on the average of 28 days,” According to RedditAnd the other shows how much contributions were made in the last seven days, excluding any posts or comments that were removed. Change aims to give a better look at how active is active, because crevenditors can simply “lurge” in these communities without adding content or engagement in conversations.
“Membership numbers do not tell the whole story. In most cases, the crvenitors do not need to be a community member who will publish or comment, which means that a member never fully reflected the real engagement,” Reddit said in his announcement. “By emphasizing active participation in passive membership, we continue to expire what makes Reddit unique: real people who deal with real conversations.”
This update is part of Cendit’s goal for improving the moderation on the platform, because allowing individuals to be moderate unlimited number of large communities are not “sustainable”, according to reddit. The new visitor numbers will be used to limit how many moderator can be monitored, to limit them to a maximum of five communities with over 100 k visitors. Reddit says communities with less than 100k visitors “will count into this border” and that change will only affect 0.1 percent of active modes.
Moderators can still inspect the total number of subscribers by looking into the subordinate insight, but it is not something that regular red users will be able to see. Changes are not well failed, judging by the comments Reddit Post on R / ModneyBut new metrics seem useful for users who want a more accurate view that is actually active submeddit.
