All new Iphons start with 256 GB of storage. Finally.

There is a lot to like in the new iPhone line: NEW new and even even even IPhone, if that’s your thing. All new phones share one important upgrade you may have missed during Apple’s 72 minutes advantage, however: all starting from 256 GB of storage.

For the first time in four years, Apple raised the storage of base levels to the entire iPhone line. Since iPhone 13, Apple phones began 128 GB for the cheapest configuration. Now the iPhone 17, 17 PRO and iPhone air start with a double possible capacity.

It’s time.

While 128GB can sound like a decent amount of storage, it didn’t make sense as a base amount of storage for a while, especially for levels against levels, who have much more powerful cameras. Apple seemed to realize it for some time: In the last two years (when the iPhone 15 Lineup was launched), Pro Max versions started at 256 GB. But there is absolutely no reason for only people to buy the most expensive iPhone should get storage.

Since I write about technique, my friends and family often ask me to help “fasten” different problems with their phones. (Most of my time, I am carrying out the social media media industry, so it usually involves me as I break through their specific question that my friends begging me to help me fasten things that do not have enough storage on their phone. And, almost every time, have only a minimum of 128 GB of storage that is standard, because iPhone 12 PRO and iPhone 13 lines.

But no one wants to hear, “You don’t have enough storage, you need to delete things.” One of my friends recently promised to never buy the cheapest iPhone again, after I explained that the payment of extra ICloud would not solve its problems around local storage.

But if you can afford it, the payment of upgrades for storage is still worth it. Yes, payment of additional $ 200 for 512GB for $ 400 more for 1TB on Pro Series (which is now happening since 1999. years for 2TB) enter. It does already expensive the phone as well as even greater investment. But as someone who shelled for 512GB iPhone 14 Pro three years ago, I don’t regret paying for additional premiums.

I currently use about 295 GB of my assigned storage and I never had to think about whether I need to clean up the media or if I have enough storage to take photos of my nephew in the Budget Max or I record cinematographic videos on vacation. I plan to keep this phone at least another year and expect me to still have a lot of storage compared to time to upgrade (additional storage a little helps a little with reselling or searching for value).

But, if you just can’t get you to pay extra for more capacities – and I understand, it’s really jumping with 128 GB to 256 GB, it will still be a meaningful blow. You may not notice it immediately, but it should give most people a lot of extra time before they start seeing those terrible “storage almost full” popups.
