Waymo can now test their cars for self-riding in New York, Mayor Eric Adams announced. Local authorities have given the company required for testing of autonomous vehicles in the parts of Manhattan and in the center of Brookline. It is the first ever license for “testing” of AVS, the city approved. Waymo will be able to schedule a fleet with up to eight vehicles in the city by the end of September 2025. For now, the license only allows you to make it to test your AVS with drivers.
Company announced Earlier this year that it will spend its system without drivers in 10 new cities 2025. years. In June it is applied For the testing permission to the AVS in New York, hoping one day it will be able to bring its autonomous service for driving driving in a large apple. Notes, while Adams said the city gave the first permission to the company, the company arranged its vehicles to map some parts of NIC back in 2021.
The license will be requested to register data collected from its testing to the transport department regularly to confirm that they “comply with the best practice industry in connection with Cyberner.” Waymo will get the opportunity to apply for an extension after the pilot testing period ends in September. Maybe they may continue to test them with human operators, however, though: the state law in New York prohibits the work of vehicles without the driver behind the wheel, but Vaimo said Forbes that lobbying to change the regulation.
