Giorgi Palfi conversations work with eight chicks in Tiff Title “Hen”

Giorgi Palfi“H hens” makes a movie star of amazing figures: chicken. Having your world premiere in Toronto’s competitive part of the platform, “Kokoš”, see the Hungarian directing sheet of eight real life chickens that are all introduced as the title of motion, melancholic musing on the sea village.

Speak with Variety Premiere of the film, the film “Takidermia” – whose work played in Cannes and at the international prizes won an idea for an unusual film for the first time in March 2019. years while he was undergoing a “difficult period”. “For political reasons, I couldn’t make films in Hungary for a while and I still wanted to escape from everything, I was looking for something that could be done on a small budget and researched the universal theme and had a relationship with childhood.”

“Hen” was almost completely shot from the point of view of his lawyer who presented a series of logistics challenges when there was a shooting. Fortunately for the director, his friend and animal coach Arpad Hallasz had a great experience with chickens, which the first animal coaches should face during their learning. Anyone who fails in handling the chickens will fail to education of animal coaches.

Perhaps the hardest part decided on the breed, “he adds the director.” Since it was important for our story that the chickens were industrial chickens, we chose one of the most common breeds, Leghorn. Their training began for months before filming, based on written scenes. We had to buy them before the movie got a green light. We agreed with Arpad to give chickens and he would train them. ”

The most difficult challenge in dealing with animals was that they were not legally allowed to leave the European Union. “So instead of taking over the shortest route through Serbia, they had to travel to Greece through Italy, taking a ferry,” the director explains. There was also the fact that Roosters, of course, did not work after sunset, so there were restrictions on how many hours a day could shoot.

The kindness of the TIFF

As for opting out of using CGI, ai, or any special effects to help with the chicken pov, pálfi says it is “important to have a live connects, whether they are animals or humanes. The relation and real, living being is noticeably different; That’s what gives it credibility. My Creative Curiosity is at work, and Want to try it out. I’m in the Middle of An Experiment Right Now, and it’s very exciting to work with something like that newly developed by day. ”

Commenting a certain cinematography for such a film, the Hungarian director is praising by the associate of Jogos Carvelas, which he calls “one of the most sensitive and most disconnected Greek cinographists”.

“We wanted us to work with chickens in the same way in which the actors were recorded in classical American films, somewhere below the level of the eyes,” he says. “We couldn’t dig a camera in the ground, so we used special periscope optics. It was not easier for action …”

And did Palfi learn anything from the chickens that could hire in his film in the future? “Much!” He says. “When the tension was created in the set, the Coconuts were always realized very sensitive, and when the energy has declared so perfectly. How powerful is when the team can really work as a team that he can really work as a team.”

But “hen”, in her core, a lot of unique chicken, and Palfi’s complicated policy not only families around the chicken, but how great soci-political changes influenced their life because some of the family members began to smuggled immigrants. “In addition to the unholor internal need for creation, this film is also about individual responsibility and whether our own lives can be separated from the events around us,” the director says.

“If the viewer is willing to go with me, then in this film we are playing with allowing the world from another perspective due to the thought experiment,” he adds. “And the next step is to ask questions: What if we only see the whole picture while this chicken sees the human world? Are we more than chicken in the box?”
