New York – Novak Djokovic knows the world expects another final between Jannik Greener and Carlos Alcaraz Sunday on the US Open.
Even he – a man with the most important heads of history and someone who spent 428 weeks on a ranking list – believes they are the best two players in the world. He spoke openly about how important Duo was for sports and her future.
But despite all this, 38-year-old Djokovic was not quite ready to pass himself yet.
“Everyone probably expects and predict the finals between the two,” Djokovic said after his quarterfinal victory Taylor Fritz Tuesday. “I’ll try, you know, mess up plans most people.”
Djokovic will have his chance to do only that Friday while he takes a 22-year-old Alcaraz, Seeds no. 2, in an unpathered scheduled semi-final match. The winner will face the above sinful error or no. Happy Auger-Aliassimewhich also plays on Friday, in a weekly final. Alcaraz and the sinner played with each other in the previous two Slam finals, on Vimbledon and the French, and combined to win the last seven main titles.
Friday will mark the ninth meeting in the career between Djokovic and Alcaraz, with Djokovic holding the edge of 5-3, and with two latest victories. But even with that history, Alcaraz is still favored to win the match.
There are a lot on the line for both players. Djokovic hopes his dream alive will win his 25th title title, which would mostly tie all the time with Margaret Court, and Alcaraz would like to reach his third consecutive main finish and potentially conquers his career.
Here’s everything you need to know the notice of the semifinals on Friday.
Djokovic has a few things for him. First, it was never lost from Alcaraza on a Hard Court. Their last meeting, in the quarter of the Australian Open, Video Djoković, after taking a breach of legs and dropped the opening opening, behind powerful countries, strong defensive and vintage movements that looked better and better to make the match progress.
Alcaraz later admitted that Djokovic’s injury gently lost his focus, and Djokovic deserved his huge career experience in helping him overcome the obstacle and any interfere.
Djokovic was opened through us four sets in three of his five matches, including 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 over Fritz on Tuesday. He had little injuries, a different degree of seriousness, in the entire tournament and season and was grateful to have an additional day in front of a semifinal calculation. It will probably need it. Through the semifinals, Djokovic spent almost 3½ hours in court than his younger opponent.
“I’ll try to take one day, I really take care of my body, I’m trying to relax and recover,” Djokovic said in the early morning hours on Wednesday. “For the next few days, it is really key to me to really get my body in shape and ready to fight for five sets if necessary.
“I just would really like it, I’d like to fit enough to play – and to play potentially five sets with Carlos. I know that my best tennis will be needed, but I’d like to do that.”
He admitted that in his conference he did not feel “very fresh” at his press conference after the quarterfinals, but he was hope. He was also sure of his ability to “grind,” as he did against Fritz, and find accessories at the most important moments. “You just have to play with your heart and fight,” he said. “That really gave me victory at the end.”
Although not exactly in his main form, Djokovic proved to be a terrible enemy for the Father during his race in New York. He easily moved around the Court and lifted it by strong serving. He won 92% of his services and had 57 aces. Not to mention, he also won an impressive 33% of its return games.
“I think he always serves well, like, on the first service,” Fritz said on Tuesday night. “Hit your spots well. He gets a good amount of free points and aces … I think what it has done severe in the past is how much variances is in his other service.”
Djokovic’s third opponent, Cameron NorrieHe played six times earlier, he was equally caught in his praise.
“He served amazingly good, maybe the best he ever served against me,” Norrie said. “I was really impressed by the team.”
Yes. There was no more more dominant than Alcaraz for two weeks. Arrival in New York has just won the title in Cincinnati, he was the only man who came to the quarterfinals without showing the set and he was faced with only one unresolved in his five matches. He was practically unstoppable, even against high quality opponents.
Be there legsThe seeds for the seeds of the tournament that Alcaraz was defeated in the quarterfinals in the quarterfinal, said Alcaraz – or “Grand Slam version of Carlos” – it simply done better when she had done the most.
“If you want to beat him, you have to win at least a few big points and he won all of them,” Leheca said on Tuesday. “Even when I played really good rally, even when I tried to put it under pressure, go online, change the rhythm, do something, it was there and had the answer to everything I tried.”
And if all this was not enough, Alcaraz won an amazing 99% of its service games – all but one – in New York. He told reporters that his service was his main focus to improve last year and attributed it to her consistency with her, for his recent results.
“Tennis, it’s really hard sometimes, because one day you can serve really, really good and the following matches you can feel completely different and really bad,” he said after Lehecka defeat. “So, I’m trying to keep focus at work, I’m just trying to do all the same and get a good feeling.”
Alcaraz said he knew that Djokovic was “hungry” and had an ambition for more “when he thought about their (then potential) conflict, but he said he had his motivation: revenge. “It’s obviously,” he said Tuesday, while alluded to his previous matches.
One thing is for sure: both players will bring their best level and unwavering desire to progress in the weekly final.
In this season, Djokovic was beaten by Alcaraz on this surface, so he knows exactly what he needs to do to do it again. The most important thing is to believe that it can. It is also acutely aware of typing an hour on careers and that only limited chances of staying their dream for 25.
But whether it will be motivated or weakened in a high pressure situation, it remains to be seen after a series of semifinals. Djokovic also knows that it goes a game longer, it favors the younger and fresh, Alcaraz, so it will have to go out strongly from the first point.
Alcaraz does not have any same masses on his shoulders. But what there is self confidence and a game that clicks on all cylinders. He was not faced with many recently during his race, but if he could handle those moments, if and when they go and stay locked, it must be feeling, it is his match to win.
Prediction: Alcaraz in four sets.
